1ST ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

BIO
Chris Dzaka is a seasoned 1st Assistant Director with over a decade of experience steering commercial, music video, documentary, and narrative sets with precision and calm under pressure. Whether wrangling 60 eight-year-olds at the Vancouver Zoo, coordinating downtown car stunts, or managing SPFX fire and rain, Chris brings clarity, structure,
and a steady hand to every production.
Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Chris’s path to film wasn’t linear—but it was earned. From machining bow thrusters on Vancouver’s North Shore to cutting pipe threads in Alberta’s oil patch, and from bartender shifts to broadcast journalism at BCIT (which led to a brief stint at CBC), his diverse life experience gives him a grounded, tactical approach to leadership on set.
Dzaka quickly carved out a reputation as a reliable and clear-headed AD who knows how to read a room and rally a team.
Chris has served as AD on major campaigns for brands like Pepsi, ICBC, TransLink, BC Dairy, and Vancity, and has collaborated with artists including Sub Urban and Megan Thee Stallion. He treats each production like a Sandlot baseball game—every department a starting position, every set a new inning—leading with strategy, communication, and trust in the team.
